Before
These Dix Hills homeowners stopped into our showroom after meeting with several contractors and designers who couldn’t solve all of their space issues, wants and needs. We knew we could tackle these issues by thinking out of the box!
After seeing the space, it became apparent that the existing entry closet unit, although necessary, was large and in charge. It did utilize the space, but we saw an opportunity to make it better! Our plan was to rework the entry closet to redefine the entry and welcome you into the living areas, but also to still allow for a nice large coat closet and to keep the kitchen open. By doing so, we created an anchoring wall for the large refrigerator and wall oven, as well as a long coffee station with plenty of storage and counterspace.
The next stop was to remove a window on the side of the house (usually a no-no for us, since we love natural light) to allow for ample counter space to the left and right of the range, and to create a breath-taking focal point with the range and hood from the entrance.
We adjusted the placement of the sink in the island with the dishwasher, waste basket pull out, and trash compactor. Adding shallow storage to the back of the island and seating in front of that for 4. The island became the perfect spot for morning coffees and quick meals.
Finally came the Homeowners’ new favorite spot in the kitchen; a large functioning desk stationed right at the front window for a bright view of the front yard anchored with tall pantry’s with roll outs to the left and right. Dressed with fast charging USB outlets and file drawers for maximum productivity!
But it didn’t just stop at the kitchen! The new ‘eat in’ area was also dressed with matching shallow depth, bar height cabinets to stand in as a buffet for extra counter space when serving a large meal, and storage for holiday items and serving platters. The homeowners also positioned their Television above the buffet with a new remote-controlled bracket to turn out the TV to a 90-degree angle for optimal viewing from the island! When not in use for listening to the news or watching soaps, the TV circulates various famous paintings and artwork for your viewing pleasure!
And back to where it all began, the new entry closet. Now with sliding frosted glass barn doors and lighting to see all the deep storage cubby’s and places to hang your hat at the end of the day.
